I like SylvanFans perspective that Weegar doesn’t have the star power or dynamic results but might actually help the Flames win more hockey games than Tkachuk or Gaudreau (major apologies if that’s not what he said). I think the order of importance on a championship roster is goaltending, Center, defence, and then wingers; using that rationale an argument could be made a guy like Weegar getting top 2 minutes is actually contributing more to playoff wins than high scoring wingers. I get that Weegar has never had the hype of a blue chip prospect, but like Giordano he’s worked for and had to earn all the playing time he’s built up to by overcoming being lower priority and less regarded. I think Tkachuk was a beast for Florida this year in the playoffs and wouldn’t be surprised if Weegar has similar potential for the Flames. Optimistic yes, but chemistry and group vibe/confidence go a long way in sports and I think Weegar brings good intangibles.
