I've got a leash-reactive 3 year old large dog and I've been noticing more and more off-leash dogs in my neighbourhood who either have approached or have the potential to approach us.

Owners don't seem to be too concerned, but my dog was attacked in December 2022 by an aggressive off-leash dog requiring an ER visit, so I'm a little uncertain of how she might react to other dogs approaching us now.

I am looking for something like bear spray, but for dogs, that I can legally discharge at a dog that approaches us in the neighbourhood. I'm looking for something with a good spray distance so that I can discharge it from a couple metres away and not risk spraying my own dog. Ideally I'm looking for something that does not seriously harm the other dog long term but causes it enough distress that it absolutely will not approach any further.

Does something like this exist, does anyone have any suggestions?
