Not sure how much tax revenue the dump is providing to the taxpayers in Tempe. We do know that it will cost a boatload of money to clean up the dump, money that the Coyotes were willing to put up.

Any and all of this was much much less than the incentives Glendale offered the franchise.

At the end of the day, Phoenix voters were likely still jaded from the shenanigans that the Diamondbacks pulled with Chase Field.
Not a lot of this is true. The Coyotes came hat in hand looking for a free plot of land where the city would pay for cleanup costs associated with the project. There were significant costs the city would have to take on and the logistics were never fleshed out on many of the contentious issues (remediation and relocation of the dump, infringement on Sky Harbor, actual revenue generation for the city, etc.). There is a really good reason the citizens voted this project down. The Coyotes made a good pitch, but there wasn't initially much transparency to what was actually involved. As the discussions went deeper and the details started coming out for involved stakeholders it became obvious this was going to be costly to the city. It did not forward the interests of the community at large and was a debacle waiting to happen.

The Coyotes would be wise to engage City of Mesa early and get their support before they try another end around. Work the process honestly and in the open. The citizens will be more inclined to support it if there is some honest dialogue and actual benefit.
