If he signs a sweetheart deal, no doubt they will keep him. It's difficult to see them giving him what he wants though seeing as they have 3 other forwards ahead of him making close to $11 million per season or more.

I think the Leafs believe the Nylander camp will eventually come down in price as the Leafs is the only team he wants to play for and they know it. Also they believe that Tavares is going to take a big paycut on his next deal. I think even if Nylander makes it to UFA he probably still ends up back in Toronto.
