I don't think anyone is positing that the Flames are just like VGK, nor that it is a model to follow. The point is that there 8s no one way to win, and every time a different type of team does win, it debunks an old assertion. If the Flames win the Vup this year—which is theoretically possible—they will chip away at false assertions currently held by what teams can or cannot win. This is the same for ANY team that wins the 2024 Stanley Cup.

I wasn't part of whatever the intital back and forth was, so I was only responding to the idea that if Vegas' 30 year old core can do it, so can we.

Regardless of that, my underlying point is that there IS only one way to win. Elite-level talent throughout the lineup.

Even the most blue-collar wins of recent years... LA had Kopitar, Doughty and Quick. St Louis had ROR, Tarasenko, Pietrangelo and Binnington. Even the 04 Flames had Iggy and Kipper (and lost to a much more stacked team).

Old/young, fast/slow, offensive/deffensive... those are all secondary traits to the only thing that matters: do you have elite talent at F, D and G? Or at the very least good enough talent to be elite-when-needed (Binnington and Hill come to mind here) at one position mixed with elite talent elsewhere.

At the end of the day, nobody should care about ages or systems untill you have the talent. The goal should be to get (and KEEP) elite talent, because that's how you win. Then you can worry about how old that talent is or who the coach is and what systems they play.

Back to the car analogy. Of course engines, fuel management, gear ratios, tires and drivers count... but none of that matters if you're a Nissan trying to race a Ferrari.
