However, if there were safe consumptions sites, maybe the cops or EMS wouldn’t have to make this part of their routine. Seems like there are pretty reasonable solutions to this, provided you’re not set in puritanical thinking.

I think they said 1% of users call the help number on the ticket rather than “pay the fine”. re: safe injection sites, isn’t the % that get talked into treatment extremely low as well? They just listen as long as it takes to get their hit, then probably say fk this, I’ll take my chances with street drugs rather than listen to another lecture. So what have you accomplished? Delayed the inevitable for 99% of users?
