I rarely ever take my gear on vacation. It's heavy and cumbersome. My suggestion is to get a SLR film camera with a 50mm lens. These can be had for a couple/several hundred bucks and they can take great images.
It will also teach you how to be a better photographer as you have to be selective.
The rest of the photos with family and goofing around can be taken with your phone. I'm seriously blown away sometimes with what they can do.
If that's not your thing... the suggestions of mirrorless cameras are good ideas. The Camera Store is a very good spot (as mentioned).
If you're open to used DSLR's, there has been a huge shift to mirrorless and the market is loaded with cheap setups with decent lenses. Nikon D750's, 800's, 850's are phenomenal cameras and can be had for cheap.
