That's true, but at least with suspension it's likely you're going with an aftermarket upgrade that isn't anywhere near as expensive as the factory bits that BMW would sell you otherwise. VANOS and chain guides, sure, not cheap.
Frankly, it would still be worth it for that car, it was just such a damned good car at doing everything, it made a fantastic noise,
and it was a manual transmission.
