Really, this is a difficult position to hold. The flyers are just a better franchise than us for playoff success over the period most of us have been fans.

It's a valid comparison - really whether a team wins a first round series 5 times vs 2 times is a bit irrelevant to me. No team was really that much closer to winning.
Since the 10-11 season neither the Flyers or Flames made the conference finals. Flames made it to the second round 2 times, Flyers made it 3 times.
Neither team committed to a proper rebuild (although Philly might be now), and both have had to deal with their biggest rivals continually getting handed generational players (Lemieux/Crosby vs Gretzky/McDavid).
Honestly no better comparison for two teams in sports IMO.
