Not a fan of guys in a mentoring/boss role who go out of their way to make life and careers harder on specific people because of their physical traits and/or heritage. You've failed at your job in such a role if you let those attitudes bleed into your work where every young guy under your tutelage is just looking for a fair shake.
Should've apologized directly. Even if it was still rejected by Akim, it would at least have been direct and (hopefully) sincere.
Getting another coach to be your messenger... that's not how it's done. In some ways, that's worse than the bare minimum in this instance. The core of an apology is presenting the remorse for said actions directly to the party that was wronged. Someone that gets it should want to do it the right way, even if it's difficult to.
