No doubt he can be better, but I don't think the team played scared because of goaltending. Turning it over in the offensive zone yes, but you don't play the system to a T if you are playing scared.
I think the over aggressive chasing style is what led to giving up a lot of the chances. Look at how many gambles they took leaving coverage to chase the puck to make an aggressive play.
I am not the biggest Markstrom fan, but I don't blame the season on him alone you can't expect your goalie to face 25 shots a game and half them are wide open looks.
Probably why all those first time goalies looked like stars vs us getting a bunch of easy volume shots from the outside to boost the save % while our goalie was was facing guys wide open.
