He got the deal because the cba takes everyone to free agency in 2 years and he was going to be a free agent. They made him the starter mid season and had to sign him low balling him would drive him to free agency.
I really don't think anyone saw this type of suckage coming. The deal can be reworked.

He had shown nothing to indicate he was a CFL starter, let alone a good one, and was given a top 4 or 5 highest paid contract? That is horrible.
He had shown no reason to think this level of play wasn’t likely. He was below average at best in his short time last year. Awful in the play-off game. Him being not good enough isn’t a surprise at all.
