While he certainly played less Centre this year than he has in his first 11 seasons, he still Centres the second line fairly regularly, while McDavid and Draisaitl are trotted out together nearly half the time.
Not to mention, more than half of his points this season came on the Powerplay. A lot of teams put more than 1 Centre on a powerplay unit. Malkin doesn't get called an elite winger when he scores on the powerplay.
