Unfortunately last night, one of my friend's and her friend we attacked on a DT C-Train platform by a bunch of homeless people around 10PM last night. Luckily someone intervened and police arrived almost right away. Other than a few scratches and bruises, thankfully they are physically fine. Mentally is another story, as she is very shaken up over this.
It's frustrating because she is a new arrival from Ukraine that came a few months ago and I spent a lot of time selling her on the city since it wasn't her first choice to come to Calgary, but ultimately her husband decided they should come here. Most of our initial conversations were telling her about why it was a good choice for them to come here, and it to give it time to get used to it. Thankfully she found a lot of success here soon after arriving and was starting to really like it here. I can't help but feel that this attack on her and her friend will undo a lot of that. Not that it matters, but her most recent social media post (in which she has quite a lot of followers, including in the city) doesn't paint the city in a good light. She lives DT and relies on transit to get around the city. Her life just got a whole lot more stressful after this assault.
