When we bought our Tesla the electrician wanted about $6k for the level 2 charge. This was because the conduit routing in our finished basement was going to be a massive pain and we needed a load management relay to keep us in line with our 100 amp service (this is an important point that detractors of EV like to jump on. We weren’t going to increase our peak power consumption but we did need something to help manage things, so that the car would charge when other heavy loads weren’t on, in our case the oven). This pretty much represents a worst case I would think.
My wife wisely suggested we just try on 120v since it’s basically her car for running around. Turns out she was bang on, it’s never been supercharged and spends most of its time plugged into a regular circuit getting about 7km/hr charge.
