Religious studies has real world application, albeit kind of narrow, in both government spheres (i.e., diplomatic roles and departments that interact with minority populations, especially in lots of places outside of North America) and historical research connected to tourism (i.e., it's in the same boat as things like archaeology). Film studies obviously has real world application in the film industry.
Gender studies, of course, has critically important real world application in
every field of endeavour, according to those with expertise in gender studies.
