But there is game without story, it's an inessential element to a video game.
Hmm... IMO...

It's perfectly normal for gameplay to ruin a story. I remember Dino Crisis and Parasite Eve on the PSX had a story that intrigued me. But I could not further the story because of the fricken camera angles in some of those chase sections to the game. It's like a good joke being ruined by the delivery. Or someone telling a good story that gets interrupted/goes off track a dozen times until it's too damn confusing to follow.

The opposite is true. You could have a good delivery of a bad joke. Like games that were given a backstory for back story sake like Starcraft/Fortnite which... honestly speaking 99.9% of those that play it do not give a crap or are perhaps not even aware of the story, but enjoy the game play.

So for people who dislike games because they dislike gameplay in general, I get it. I currently suffer from a type of gaming ennui and mental fatigue that I'm trying to overcome. I'd currently much rather watch a movie/Show where the story is constantly progressing, rather than have a story constantly interrupted in its delivery to the point I'm confused what is going on.

Video games are a different story telling medium. Many of them you have to piece the story together through a whole bunch of other random events and data points that could be considered "noise and drivel". But, that is how it becomes immersive and you feel like you're part of the story or it's the story "as told by you" sort of thing vs purely a spectator. Movies you feel more like a spectator rather than part of the story. That's why a Life is Strange video game would be completely different story than a Life is Strange movie. That's why a Hamilton Broadway production would be totally different than a full length movie based on the Hamilton Broadway script due to the frequent breaking/addressing of the 4th wall of many Broadway productions.

The audience may have different preferences on how they'd like to be addressed/engaged in the story and the audience members may enjoy a story more purely based on whether the medium used is closer to the style of delivery that they'd like/prefer to experience the story.
