could have put him on LTIR but didn't end up having a need to? LTIR isn't something you just use to open up cap space in case you need it. It allows you to exceed the cap by the injured player's cap hit.
So for example if the Flames became buyers at the deadline, where up against the cap and knew Kylington wasn't coming back, then they could put him on LTIR and bring in player that costs the same Kylingtons cap hit at the time.
