Are there powerhouse teams any more? Colorado from two years ago was pretty good, but their goaltending was a weakness. They were a division winner this year and were bounced in the first round. Tampa has been good but not great the last couple seasons. I wonder if your expectations are too high for this era in the salary cap. Each team has high priced veterans and tries to fill in with talented youth. The teams that find a good balance seem to make improvements.

Your opinion is probably true on the Flames, but it isn’t a certainty. A couple seasons ago the Flames were amongst the highest favourites to win entering the playoffs. They didn’t, naturally. People that prior off season were also predicting the same thing as you are now.

I thought Dallas was a decent team last summer but I didn’t see them being a divisional team with 108 points and making it to the conference finals.

A lot of things went wrong for the Flames to be a bubble team last year. Could they be better this year with this roster? I think that is certainly the case. They could be middling and not good, which makes the case for a bigger shake up. You may hold the opinion that this team isn’t good as constructed. Some people disagree, including what appears to be management of the team.
