I have several friends / family that are in the same information sphere as yoho.

Once somebody is in that sphere it’s pointless to try and have interesting conversations with them.

Once they are gone you realize they have not only lost the ability to think critically, but they have a completely different set of information on what constitutes reality.

I’ve seen super smart people become a bunch of parroted talking points, and justification for opinions or actions that would have made them laugh if they had heard somebody say the same thing 5 years earlier, before they were lost.

It’s sad to be unable to have a genuine conversation where you discuss opinions and get interesting ideas with people you’ve known For decades. In the end, it’s talk about work, vacations, kids, shared memories.

I wish there was an answer to rekindle the interesting, thoughtful people I knew. But as far as I can tell those people are completely gone, almost as if they have been taken over by a bot on certain subjects.
The key is to treat it like improv, and just go deeper.

I have a buddy who says the moon landing was faked. I told him not only was that faked, we’ve also never split the atom.

Most genius myth ever to end large scale war. Why do you think Putin hasn’t used nukes? Because he doesn’t even HAVE them! Nobody does.

It gets way more fun to just play with the crazy than try to fight it. Maybe someday it’ll even give him an offramp.
