I think it's a sensible stance. If you believe the competition is tougher and tougher year after year due to the cap, then not much separates the 1st seed in most seasons to the 8th seed and indeed, anything can happen if you can get in.
It's not 1996 anymore when getting in as an 8th seed was an automatic out.
