What's wrong with what they did? Companies can get rid of anyone (almost) at anytime without cause, and they can rehire for the same position if they want. Of course how they get rid of you and what they owe for severance is then important, but if he got EI then I assume they didn't mark him down as fired with cause on the ROE.
