I bought season's tickets that year (starting that year), and my rep GUARANTEED that they would make the playoffs. I thought that was optimistic at the time, but by Christmas, I was on board.
Come April, the buzz in the town was palpable. I - and everyone else I knew - went into the Vancouver series expecting to win.

That matches my recollection.
I remember saying, early in the '03-04 season (and I may have put it in writing on the old Calgary Flames Usenet group), that the Flames' roster looked to be built for the playoffs, and if they got in at all they were likely to go deep. I figured it was about 50/50 whether they would miss the postseason or go on a Cinderella run.
