That's fair, but I've been teaching him for two years on standard already. He turns 16 in September and I want to keep the standard momentum going. I find he pays more attention and his mind stays on driving better when he's changing gears versus an automatic where daydreaming can set in. I think he's a safer driver with stick, but every kid is different so an automatic may be best for you.
My daughter is now 17.5 and has been driving stick since she got her license on her 16th birthday. She's an awesome driver and standard is a skill shockingly few of her peers have. I think it makes her look cool hah.
