If anything, it shows stronger fanhood. I was willing to overspend on Tkachuk after his 1st 100 point season but the team didn't seem to be. I'm not yet a fan of Huberdeau, he was the centre piece in the biggest trade in flames history, signed the biggest contract in club history, came in for his 1st season and dramatically underperformed. It is hard to become a fan of a player in that situation. It's acceptable not to be a big unyielding fan of this player at this point.

Has he underperformed his current contract? Not yet I suppose. But you still don't understand the point of the article, clearly. It's trying to project this coming season, where he will be playing under the 10.5 mil contract. Dom's stats show that he's unlikely to make that contract worthwhile based on his current trajectory. I have to agree, but not based on trajectory, based on the players around him. I don't think we have the horses to get a perimeter, primarily distribution based player who doesnt really drive transition or offense on his own, to 83 points over a season. Happy to eat crow if it happens, but realistically I just don't see a way.

I like Huberdeau the person, and think he's an interesting player.

Essentially your argument is that preferring a player who was drafted and played through several seasons of adversity with the club, to a new player who's played here one season and underperformed makes people fickle fans. It's total nonsense.
Tkachuk was not willing to sign here after his 100 point season, though. Are you just forgetting that he requested a trade? The only time to sign him long term was after the 2018-19 season.

You can't tell me that Tkachuk wouldn't have been run out of town and or heavily criticized by this market if he was making 10M+ a year and played the way that he did in 2020-21. Not being able to look past circumstance, player deployment, personal changes, etc.. and basing an opinion off solely one season is what can make fans fickle. Players can have bad seasons and turn it around. We see it every single season.

I am not making this a Tkachuk vs Huberdeau thing. I prefer Tkachuk as well but he didn't want to be here.
