I think the question with him was more about can he do it in the playoffs when it really matters.

Not quite the same stat, but according to Wikipedia, only 124 players in NHL history have 100-point seasons. Only 17 have ever done it with two different teams. I'd have to look through the list to see how many of those 17 have done it in back to back seasons (other than Tkachuk and (obviously) Gretzky).
Edit: looked it up, doing US first then I'll look at all
According to NHL.com stats, US-born players with back-to-backs (same or different teams) (all-time) (from earliest to latest) are:
* Jimmy Carson. 87-88 (LAK), 88-89 (EDM)
Brett Hull: 88-89, 89-90, 90-91, 91-92 (STL)
Kevin Stevens: 91-92, 92-93 (PIT)
Jeremy Roenick: 91-92, 92-93, 93-94 (CHI)
* Matthew Tkachuk: 21-22 (CGY), 22-23 (FLA)
* Back-to-backs with different teams
