They weren’t as great roster but they also weren’t a “second worst Flames record” roster. Compare that roster to Buffalo’s that year. Buffalo finished ahead of them. Same with Dallas.
You all can inform me why this terrific coach has not had a sniff of the NHL since. He was mentioned only once - in Montreal, and got beaten out by a guy who’d never coached pro or major junior hockey. As for the KHL, I suspect a-holes are tolerated a lot more there.

Having all your best players in their 30’s is a recipe for disaster. Was then and is now. Those old teams do not win in hockey. Tanguay - 32, Kipper - 35, Sarich - 34, Cammalleri - 30. Too old to compete.
