Except there's no reason to believe a trade was actually on the table, to the point of being ready to consummate. Both CGY and COL would have been exploring many possibilities...they each might have had the general framework of deals with several teams before deciding which to pursue in final detail.
COL opted for the deal that cost them nothing, with probably a lower AAV
