Let's put it this way... if you're Draisaitl (who no doubt believes he is the 2nd best player on the planet, and probably thinks he is the best player), and other cities can offer:
lower taxes
better weather
less insane fans (than Canadian teams)
more endorsement opportunities
a better chance of winning,
less likely to be called pissy by the media, and
the chance to be 'the guy',
would you re-sign in Edmonton?
The only upside to staying, is keeping the twosome together. But in 10 years, the organization hasn't been able to build a team around the two of you, so you have to ask yourself, if they can't do it when you cost $21M, will they be able to do it when you cost $30M+?
