No one needs to be a power lifter, but there's definitely benefits to everyone having some lifting (or other strength training) in their life.
Agreed, I'm not into lifting but certainly see the benefits if that's your thing. In general, if you're not getting yourself off the couch and doing 60 mins of exercise 3-4 times a week you're doing yourself a disservice.
Out of shape people do not age well, you want to be able to run your own errands later in life you might want to invest in your future now.
