Do you mean wash cloths? As in those small little square sized towels?

I hate to be the grammar police, but adding that "e" changes the entire meaning of the post.

And to answer your question, I've always heard of them being called face cloths, for the exact reason you mentioned. And when my mom last came into town for a visit, she asked why I didn't have any out for her; so I would say it's normal for women to wash their faces with them.
