Additionally, I could see Dubas being less attached to this prospect than other GMs who just made their selection at the draft. He seemed to make a strong point in interviews at the draft that he put this pick in the hands of the scouts who were already part of the organization when he got there.
It would be a rough start to a President/GM’s relationship with his scouting staff if he decided over-ride their choice for a pick when he just got there. However, trading the selected player as part of a package for some NHL stars looks much better.
