What about something like this:
To Pittsburgh:
Hanifin + Lindholm (50% retained)
To Calgary:
Brayden Yager
2024 1st round pick (top 5 protected)
2024 2nd round pick
2025 1st round pick (top 10 protected)
Pierre Olivier-Joseph
Mikael Granlund (cap dump)
I assume at least one of Lindholm and Hanifin sign extensions with Pittsburgh. This is an all-in move for Pittsburgh. Dubas says he’s betting on Crosby/Malkin/Letang. This would be a move to prove it. It’s a big risk from Pittsburgh’s prospective of course because it completely depletes their already very thin prospect pool… but it could potentially return Pittsburgh into being a powerhouse again for their last few years of that core. I believe Dubas’s goal is to give this group every chance it has to win… Yager and any pick they make in the next two years does nothing to help with that. Lindholm and Hanifin do that right now. Also, this move by Dubas denies the opportunity for other teams in the eastern from improving by acquiring Lindholm or Hanifin.
I know it’s very rare for a team to trade a player so soon after being drafted (Yager)… but I’m sure it’s been done before. The flames load up with draft capital and a recent top 15 pick from this loaded draft. Not sure who wins this trade since both give up a lot… but that can usually be a sign that it’s a fair trade IMO.

That is a pretty awful trade for the Flames. Yager is a third line prospect and a Joseph is young but nothing special.
