That’s the big problem with this team. It’s a lot of good players and they’re playing well it not playing great. Here let me copy a post from another board I follow about the Jays.

Checking how the Jays sOPS+ is vs the AL only how are they? sOPS+ is OPS+ vs others at the same position in the AL only. 14 teams to compare to.
C: 100 (7th), 1B: 111 (3rd), 2B: 85 (9th), 3B: 113 (5th), SS: 135 (2nd), LF: 82 (11th), CF: 96 (10th), RF: 105 (6th), DH: 110 (7th).
So below the median (7 1/2) at 2B, LF, CF only. sOPS+ of 85-82-96 for those positions with crazy good defense in LF/CF.

FanGraphs gives us WAR by position by team. How do the Jays do that way?

C: 1.8 #5; 1B: 1.4 #4; 2B: 1.6 #4; 3B: 2.7 #4; SS: 3.3 #3; LF: 2.3 #6; CF: 2.8 #5; RF: 1.4 #8; DH: 0.7 #8; NP: 14.9 #4

The problem is not that this team lacks depth or good players. They have that. The problem is this team lacks any superstars that would complement good players. Bo is trying but he’s not enough on his own. Springer used to be that but at this age he’s more just a good player. Vlad was supposed to be that but clearly isn’t. This teams issue is they don’t have great position players. They have plenty of good ones though which makes upgrading things tough. The number of players available that are better than the current ones are small. Obviously there is a need for a RH hitting OF that can hit LHP to platoon with Varsho and spell Belt but other than that hard to say where any reasonable upgrade is.
