You have to remember that while we always say "the mountains" as a factor that could attract someone to the lifestyle here - throughout their contracts I have heard that players have contractual and insurance stipulations that they can't do a lot of the activities associated with the mountains like skiing and snowmobiling, etc. which could result in accidental injury that voids their coverage and deals. That's why they stick to safe sports like Golf in the offseason.
If all you can do is go hiking, it might not be that exciting to live by the mountains.
