After that, we went on vacation to Turkey. We have already begun to prepare for the season.

— Did you experience discomfort in terms of the climate in Newark, after all, it was gray and dark in your city?

— The climate is the same as in Minsk. The weather is similar in both winter and summer. Only if you do not take this winter, because the snow fell only a couple of times. We only have an arena in this city. We live in houses outside the city: there are good areas, clean places. Many hockey players live near the Hudson, rent apartments. So everyone is not near the arena, but in a 20-25 minute drive to it.

Your team is now Calgary. Try to compare two organizations with which you are familiar.

“It’s hard to say that because I haven’t gotten there yet. In any case, I'm glad to get into a new organization, a change of scenery. Last season didn't work out very well, now there are new opportunities, new acquaintances with the guys, I'm really looking forward to this moment. I have nothing bad to say about New Jersey. Excellent organization, spent a good three years there, we liked everything, New York is nearby. And now Canada, a new country, we will study the city.

- If you look at the statistics and playing time for three seasons in New Jersey, you can conclude that the first season was the best, and the next ones were worse. Do you understand now what you lacked and why you didn't always get into the squad?

- This year I had a different role, I played in the third or fourth line, I played in the minority. Maybe it had an effect, because in the first two years I was allowed to play in the majority. Last summer I stayed to train in Florida, maybe it made itself felt a little, because before that I always trained at home, in Belarus. This year I will completely change my preparation and I will prepare in a different way.

- There is an opinion that New Jersey has changed since the time when you first came, the team has become stronger. Maybe that's why it was more difficult for you to get into the squad?

- Yes, a couple of players were added there: Timo Mayer , Ondzhey Palat , I call him Andrey . Maybe because of this, my role has changed a little. I will work to play at a high level.

- Calgary will have a new coach, have you discussed with the general manager what is expected of you in the team?

“We didn’t discuss anything, it will happen anyway when I arrive. There will be a camp, I will break through and prove that I am worthy of playing in the first or second link. After the exchange, the general manager and I phoned, they said that they were already waiting for a meeting.

- You said that you called up the Russian hockey player Nikita Zadorov. Who else do you know from Calgary?

- There is a concept in the league - Russian-speaking players. After many Belarusian hockey players were selected in the draft, did the concept of “Belarusian hockey players” appear?

- To be honest, many people still say that we are Russians. I always correct because I think I am Belarusian. I have been playing for five years now, and those guys who have been with me for these five years still call me Russian. I need to learn geography!

— Did you write off with the guys who were selected in the draft?

To be honest, I don't know anyone.

- Daniil Karpovich was drafted by New Jersey, so they can't do without Belarusians?

- Apparently, yes, they decided to take one more Belarusian.

You have had a long road to the NHL. You came to Belarus, then left again. Now the guys are moving to different American leagues and do not always return back to Dynamo. And you came back, scored goals, became the captain. What advice can you give young guys on how to build their careers?

- I can not give any advice, everyone has their own way. A lot of guys get their way in different ways. Someone plays in the AHL for several years, then they get into the NHL. The main thing is not to stop, always work. Set yourself a goal and go for it.

Your baby was born in December. What are the thoughts of a hockey player who can become a father at any moment, and he is always on the road, on the road?

“These are the best emotions you can ever experience. When a child is born, there is nothing like it. My wife gave birth during the game. The team got into position and let me go. The wife had contacts, if anything, she could dial someone from the team or write, then they let me know, and I leave. But we didn't have that. We went to the hospital in advance, we spent this time together there. I only missed one workout.

- After the birth of the child, has something changed in your game, in your mood, in your thoughts?

- I also prepare for the games, nothing has changed. Thanks to my wife, I always sleep well. I sleep in a separate room, on the ground floor. She gives me a rest, perfectly understands that I need to recover. Many thanks to her for this.

- When you played in New Jersey, did your wife communicate with the wives of other players? Did you have any holidays where you gathered with your families?

- Wives, husbands gather for some holidays. We can sit and relax. At the games, the wives are always together, there are family rooms where they can be on breaks, so they always communicate.

- At the moment, in comparison with other Belarusians, we can say that you are an experienced hockey player from the NHL. If one of the Belarusians comes to Calgary, are you ready to help him?

“Well, I won’t help anyone in Calgary yet, because I haven’t arrived there myself yet. And in New Jersey, I can help everyone.

- If I know, I'm ready to help. There is also Sergey Brylin , I think he will help everyone.

- Sergey Brylin is a three-time Stanley Cup winner, you said that he often worked with you individually. What can you say about his work?

- This is a legendary figure for New Jersey, won three Cups. Even when he was in the AHL, we called each other, helped with advice, watched games and always suggested something. When he worked in New Jersey, they also finalized something with him. He has a lot to learn, I always listen to his advice.

- He worked with you back in the AHL, and now he is an assistant coach?

— A record number of Belarusian players have been selected in the draft this year. How would you assess the state of Belarusian hockey? Do they talk about us?

- It's good that the guys were drafted, that a record number of hockey players came out. It's great for Belarusian hockey. In America, sometimes they ask which of the young plays where, but this is very rare. I think when such a number of Belarusians are chosen in the draft, this is a big plus.

How long ago did you start working with your agent Dan Milstein? This is a very famous person for hockey.

- I started working with Dan when I got to the adult world championship. Somewhere in 2016-2017. He put me up for the draft, helped on all issues. We have been working together for five years now, I can only speak positively about him: he does his job well in hockey, and in everyday life. He has assistants who help set up the Internet, insure the car, and so on.

- What is your relationship with Washington Capitals forward Alexei Protas?

- We have a good relationship, often in touch, write off. We visited Washington many times with the team, he didn’t have a child at that moment, we could go to a restaurant for dinner.
