It does seem like a lot. For the Flames to get a ~PPG player for pretty much his whole prime would be pretty awesome though. If the acquisition cost is what the rumour says, I think it would be worth the over payment. I also think with the cap likely to rocket up after next season, the norm is going to be for 75-80 point players to get $9+ million. The additional $1 million is the standard smaller market/Canadian team surcharge.
It's always a big risk though, because sometimes players are just never able to carry over previous success to new teams.
