I’m kind of surprised this doesn’t happen more often. I get a player wanting to keep the money they signed for, but if the situation goes sour, or the contract makes you hated by fans, why not terminate, and find a new team that appreciates you. Granted not all players can afford a gamble like that. But say a guy like (cough) Huberdeau realized his contract could make him hated and make his situation and life terrible, then why not restructure or renegotiate like Turek did back in the day. Maybe it isn’t allowed? But if you’re wealthy already, why not create a situation where everyone is happy?

The CBA doesn't allow player contracts to be restructured or renegotiated since 2005.
