Canada has far worse integration issues. Quebec exists and is totally unintegrated with the rest of the country culturally. They have laws in place to bulwark that cultural difference.
The only equivalency would be if the US made Puerto Rico a state. Even then I am not sure that puerto rico would institute language protection laws or things like that.
Both statements are base propaganda. The US has never been a melting pot, it's always been a conform or go live over there and try not to be seen by the rest of us. Canada has always been more of an attempt at a melting pot (let's blend all of our cultures into a new messy non-culture!) without any serious force behind it (EXCEPTING THE OBVIOUS CULTURAL GENOCIDE PERPETRATED LARGELY THROUGH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES).
