We cannot sign Coronato longterm because we do not have the cap space to give him the number he wants so we sign him to a 3 year deal with a high Qualifying offer at the end of it for his final year of RFA status. We trade him to Florida for some older players on Florida in the summer of 2028.
Smart teams give themselves the ability to sign young players to 8 year deals (or as long of a term as possible). Longer the term with good young players the higher the AAV.
