Most meta stuff is closed off now, so no promise Threads will be open. Meta can do it because they have the infrastructure already. It's a lot easier/more affordable to roll out another feature integrated with your user accounts and other systems than to build it up from scratch, particularly when Meta is walled, and Bluesky won't be(well, the protocol, anyway). So unfortunately these things take time, and I really hope everyone doesn't flood to Meta.
