It wouldn't be a good look. The Leafs might be playing Wolf while we miss the playoffs; And even if we made them and didn't go far we would still be upset that our young prospect was playing elsewhere. There is no return if you make that trade without valuing that young potential asset.
Nylander would be a great add if this was a younger core with elite pieces, but to bank on this core when our two top guys haven't shown us any heart or commitment in their first season is chasing a poor model.
I would sit back and see if Huberdeau and Kadri are serious this season because if either one struggles, or doesn't show up at least you know what you need to do both in terms of personal and long term goals.
Nylander is a shiny new potential toy in front of us so we get a little blinded and If we wait, better opportunities will likely open up.
Tree made this mess signing guys that stopped playing after they got paid, now he has learned something and signed 2 short term deals, he is hoping to give Conroy an anchor while he runs off with the goods.
