He wasnt "magically" placed on IR. He had a hip issue all season but played through it. At seasons conclusion he decided he could not do it any longer, so it was his choice, not the team.

LTIR requires the team to provide medical proof to the league. Also it requires the player to agree with the assessment. Obviously the player can state they dont feel ready to return on date XX but thats a different scenario than actually getting on IR to begin with.

Maybe Murray actually has an ongoing and untreated/non-healed injury in which case you could be correct. But it has to be verifiable and legit.
