This trade probably does enough that they can dress a roster, but without unexpected prospects emerging, the gulf between their top6/bottom6 and top4/bottom pair will be sizable. Nothing new.

Bouchard is unlikely to settle for $6.0 m on a long term deal. I expect it will be closer to 3 x $6.5 m. When Nurse signed his second contract, it was 2 x $3.2 m, coming off a 26-point season. That was a 4% cap hit. Bouchard just registered back-to-back +40-point seasons.
If the Oilers bridged Bouchard like they did Nurse when he came off back-to-back 40-point seasons, they would be paying him 2 x $5.75 m (=6.87% cap-hit). I believe this is the bottom end of any deal for him.
