I would probably drive my car off a cliff if I had to spend one day of my life deal with 20-30 kids or teenagers by myself. Their work probably helps drive 15% of the economy just by getting kids out of the way so their parents can work.
Just seems like a weird thing for people to get all bent out of shape about.

I think teachers have a tough job, but do get compensated fairly. I don't begrudge them for the summers off or the retirement benefits, as that's part of the benefits of the job, and they deserve it. But what does get a little tiring is the sometimes sensational "woe is me" reporting, such as this thread title. I get it, you work outside school hours to course prep, there's extra curricular requirements, etc . But guess what? That's why you get all the summer time off too. So as much as I don't begrudge the extra holidays, I also have little sympathy for the "extra" hours put in after kids are off core school hours.
