Being skeptical of pretty much every prospect I am most excited about Poirier and his growth over the last two years. He was challenged to be better in his own end in junior and he took that to heart. His first year as a pro was revelation in what we have on our hands. One of the top scoring defensemen in the league as a rookie and he was a plus player in his own zone. He was excellent in the AHL and could continue his growth being exposed to the NHL game. He also brings a skill we desperately need on the blueline, so if handled the right way (this is why Huska was hired) and sheltered, he could step in and contribute.
Well a more serious answer would be that he should be wherever he can get the most ice time and develop the best. The Flames are not going to be competitive this year but nonetheless they will have an established top 4 on the backend. And they will likely have their PP1 established with no room for Poirier. So he gets 5/6 minutes and limited PP time. I think it would be better for him to play 22 minutes a night in the AHL and be the guy rather than be a 5/6/7 dman on the big club.
