Being skeptical of pretty much every prospect I am most excited about Poirier and his growth over the last two years. He was challenged to be better in his own end in junior and he took that to heart. His first year as a pro was revelation in what we have on our hands. One of the top scoring defensemen in the league as a rookie and he was a plus player in his own zone. He was excellent in the AHL and could continue his growth being exposed to the NHL game. He also brings a skill we desperately need on the blueline, so if handled the right way (this is why Huska was hired) and sheltered, he could step in and contribute.

I’m in the minority but I think Poirier is the second best prospect in the Flames system. I think he has the potential to be a top pair dman. He took the feedback on his defensive play to heart.
