If Chris Snow had pushed for Sharangovich, I’m willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt on him. I do wish the pick was higher, of course, but that’s not what concerns me. What concerns me is what this says about the direction of the team. The return is mostly a roster player, even if Sharangovich is much younger than Toffoli. So, I view this as a compete now trade.
By far the biggest positive of this trade is the Flames not signing Toffoli long term. And I don’t like the compete now direction, but if they are going to compete now, I do like faster and younger and hungrier. And if Chris Snow likes him, then I think it’s also a positive sign to hear Conroy is collaborating with Snow.
