Toffoli got scared that when the Flames told him that they were prioritizing re-signing other players over him that:
1) They wouldn't have enough cap space left over to sign him to a deal worthy of the numbers he put up last season.
2) Coaching changes would probably see him get less offensive ice time to replicate last years numbers
Ironically, according to LeBrun, NJ isn't in a hurry to sign Toffoli to an extension either. They want to see how he acclimates to the team first.
