You need to do a lot of mental gymnastics so you can be happy with Lindholm signing a $9M x 8 contract. I see him as a $7-7.5M player. I certainly won't be happy with him making $9M 5-8 years down the road. I also don't see the Flames contending in the next 5 years.

The only reason we're entertaining $9M is because the cap is supposed to go up significantly. Here are some hard questions we need to be asking ourselves:

How many OT games did Lindholm win for us?

How good was he at shutting down EDM's centers in the playoffs?

How many players on the Flames does he make better/has chemistry with?

Is he good enough at carrying the puck in transition?

What is his role on the PP, and who will get him the puck?

All those questions make me think he doesn't warrant the $9M price tag. Especially towards the end of that potential contract.
